Eldonia berbera n. sp.

Exceptional piece of ± 17.5 x 19 cm, with 2 individuals, the largest ± 7.5 cm in diameter. Both parts, the positive and the negative, have been preserved.

  • Eldonia is a well-known fossil from the Cambrian of the Burgess Shale in Canada, from Chenjang and also from the Ordovician of Morocco. The fossil was first described by Walcott and classified in the sea cucumber family. The fossil has a round shape and therefore somewhat resembles a jellyfish. In the best preserved specimens, some of the internal structure is also preserved. This is a very well preserved specimen with many details still visible. Today it belongs to a genus that includes Paropsonema, Rotadiscus, and Stellostomites.
